Couples Therapy

Conflict in a relationship is completely natural.

Even the healthiest of couples experience some degree of conflict in their lives. The secret is addressing those issues head-on and not letting your less-loving interactions define you.

By seeking out couples counseling, you can gain insight into your relationship dynamics, stop conflicts before they start and repair any lingering emotional wounds or traumas.

The goals of Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy, respect, and affection, remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy in conflicting situations, and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.

How often do you and your partner miscommunicate?

If you’re like most couples, you and your partner speak different languages when it comes to expressing your needs. Successful communication between couples requires understanding, embracing, adapting to and loving those differences.

During couples counseling, we will spend time exploring your communication styles and helping you learn to coexist more effectively.

How to Have Successful Communication:

Even the most loving, happy and in-sync couples have miscommunications and misunderstandings. Couples counseling can help you prevent those missteps from becoming a larger issue.

Successful communication between couples takes practice. It means being able to convey your feelings, thoughts and troubles in a way that your partner can hear them, without becoming defensive. Sometimes, it can even involve not communicating at all, until you are both ready.

Changing the way you communicate with your partner can alter the entire fabric of your relationship. For example, by learning to not shout at your partner during conflicts, you can transform the entire relationship into a calmer and more safe experience.

At the Intuitive Counseling Center, our compassionate couples counselors have extensive experience helping couples improve their communication skills.

Family Therapy

Family relationships are complex.

Whether you are a parent, child, sibling or spouse, navigating the waters of your family’s relationships is an essential part of everyday life.

Sometimes, it’s easy. Other times, we become so enmeshed in our own drama that we need an outside perspective to help us see what is happening.

That’s where family counseling comes in.

How Family Therapy Works:

At Intuitive Counseling, families of all kinds and ages are welcome. While our therapists often work with adolescents in one-on-one sessions, the family is seen as a systemic unit, and all members are invited to participate in family counseling.

Your family counselor will help you see first-hand exactly how your relationships are getting stuck. They also will call on your individual and shared strengths to move through these blocks and find new ways to love, support and be supported by each other.
